The strawberry brownie trifle has layers of brownies, fresh strawberries and chocolate cream. It’s the perfect simple dessert, great for Valentine’s Day or other gatherings!
Quick Tips
- Serve this dessert in a trifle bowl or a deep dish 9×13 pan (the recipe can be easily cut in half as well)
- Depending on how you assemble your trifle, you may end up with extra brownies or cream. Just add extras to a glass for single-serve desserts or an 8×8 pan!
- The brownies and chocolate cream can also be homemade (I will link to other recipes of mine where you can find how to do this), but for simplicity I used boxed brownie mix and instant pudding/cool whip for the trifle layers
Equipment
- Hand or stand mixer (optional)
- Whisk
- Silicone spatula
- Large mixing bowls
- Trifle bowl
- 9×13 pan(s)
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Knife and cutting board
Ingredient Notes
- Brownie mix: plus whatever ingredients are required to make them, you will need two boxes
- Cool whip: for the full recipe, you will need a 16 ounce container
- Instant chocolate pudding: two 4 ounce boxes will be needed
- Fresh strawberries: 1 pound of strawberries, sliced and diced (what you will typically find in the grocery store) will be enough, but you can add more if you’d like (plus other fresh berries!)

How to make a Strawberry Brownie Trifle
This strawberry brownie trifle is incredibly easy to make and assemble! Follow the three easy steps below to make this delicious treat.
- Make the brownies
- Make the chocolate cream
- Assemble the strawberry brownie trifle
How to make the brownies
Follow the instructions on the boxed brownie mixes and bake the brownies. I recommend baking them in a 9×13 pan that is lined with parchment paper.
Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting them up for the trifle assembly. To begin assembling the trifle, add a layer of brownies to the bottom of the bowl.
How to make the chocolate cream
Add the two boxes of instant pudding to a large mixing bowl. Then add two total cups of cold milk. Whisk together until thick and smooth.
Use a silicone spatula to fold in the cool whip. Mix until fully incorporated and smooth.
Place the chocolate cream in the fridge until you need it for trifle assembly.
How to assemble the strawberry brownie trifle
Cut the cooled brownies into 1-inch squares and thinly slice all but 3-4 strawberries. These will be used to line the trifle bowl for the strawberry layers. Chop up the remaining strawberries. Set aside.
Now that you have all of your trifle ingredients, you can begin final assembly!
Next, add a layer of chocolate cream then place the sliced strawberries around the edge of the trifle bowl (as pictured above). Sprinkle diced strawberries over the chocolate cream.
Repeat the steps above until you have filled your trifle bowl (you may have extra brownies or chocolate cream, depending on the size of your trifle bowl).
Top the trifle with a final layer of chocolate cream, then decorate with brownie crumbles and strawberries. Store the strawberry brownie trifle in the fridge and enjoy within 7 days. Freezing is not recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
This trifle should be stored in the fridge and is best if enjoyed within a week. After 2-3 days the strawberry juice may start to leak into the cream, but that will not affect taste.
Absolutely! My favorite homemade brownies can be found within this recipe. You should 4x the recipe (to yield two 9×13 pans of brownies) to get enough brownies to make the trifle.
Of course! Feel free to swap the chocolate pudding with vanilla, strawberry or white chocolate to switch up the flavors.
Yes. Add other fresh fruits/berries to switch up the flavors. Raspberries would go great with the strawberries!
