These light butter cookies are a holiday classic in our house! Get out the cookie press and throw just a few ingredients together and you have these adorable, festive cookies.
Welcome to my first of many Christmas cookie posts! I thought it would be appropriate to post my family’s favorite Spritz cookie recipe since these are a staple to any holiday cookie platter. They are small, sweet, and simply delicious!
These Spritz cookies contain only 5 ingredients and are very easy to make. The only thing you will need to make sure to buy before making these cookies is a cookie press (linked here). You can make many adorable shapes – I usually prefer the Christmas trees and snowflakes.
Tips for making these cookies:
- Do NOT chill the dough – the dough will need to be warm/at room temperature to go through the cookie press
- Do NOT grease your pan – the dough needs to be able to stick to the pan in order to properly come out of the cookie press
- Sprinkle the cookies with your choice of colored sprinkles BEFORE baking
- Make sure not to over-bake these cookies! A slightly browned bottom will produce the best consistency

Have you ever added almond extract to this recipe? Is this recipe considered the traditional way to make it?
Jackie says
Yes, I would say that these are the traditional spritz cookies. Such a great idea to add almond extract! I would recommend starting with 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract or less to try since it’s so strong, but it would be a great flavor addition. I have never personally tried it so let me know how it goes 🙂
