    Two Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

    Jump to Recipe

This easy two ingredient chocolate mousse is made by whipping up chocolate ganache, which simply contains heavy cream and chocolate. It makes just enough for two people to enjoy (or just one!).

This easy chocolate mousse is perfect for Valentine’s Day or for a day that you’re craving something sweet and hassle-free! Follow the instructions below to make it.

    Quick Tips

    • Use whichever chocolate you’d like for this mousse (dark, milk or semi-sweet). You can use chocolate chips (1 cup) or 6 ounces of chopped baking chocolate
    • Use the microwave or stove top to heat the heavy cream – just take care not to scald the cream
    • Top this easy two ingredient chocolate mousse with fresh fruit, additional chocolate shavings or whipped cream
    • This mousse can also be used as a topping for other desserts! Like these layered mousse brownies, cupcakes or cookies

    Equipment

Since this dessert is so simple, you won’t need much equipment to make it!

    • Hand or stand mixer
    • Mixing bowl
    • Measuring cups
    • Silicone spatula or spoon (for mixing)
    • Kitchen scale (for weighing the chocolate – optional)
    • Sauce pan (if using stove top to heat the cream – optional)

    Ingredient Notes

    • Heavy cream
    • Semi-sweet chocolate chips: I used semi-sweet chocolate chips to make this mousse, but you can also use dark or milk chocolate. Chocolate chips or chopped baking chocolate works for this recipe
    • Desired toppings: whipped cream, fresh fruit, chocolate shavings, etc.

How to make Two Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

This two ingredient chocolate mousse contains simple ingredients and can be made in just a few simple steps!

Pour the heavy cream into a medium-sized microwave safe bowl and heat the cream for 30-45 seconds in the microwave, or until almost boiling. You can also heat until almost boiling on the stove using a small saucepan.

Remove the cream from heat and add the chocolate chips. Mix until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Return to heat for a few seconds if needed to fully melt the chocolate.

Once the mixture is smooth, place the chocolate ganache in the fridge to begin cooling. Leave the mixture for 10-15 minutes total. Stir it after 5 minutes to ensure that it cools evenly.

Remove the chocolate from the fridge when it begins to feel cool to the touch – that means it’s ready to whip into mousse! Take care not to leave it in the fridge for too long or the chocolate will begin to set.

Once the mixture is cool to the touch, remove it from the fridge and place it in a medium-large bowl or in a stand mixer bowl. I recommend using a stand mixer if you have it because the whipping process can take multiple minutes.

Whip the chocolate on medium-high speed using the whisk attachment. Mix until the mixture lightens and fluffs up. This will take 3-5 minutes.

Spoon the mousse in your desired serving bowl, then return it to the fridge to set. This will take 30-60 minutes.
